Fuel Filling

Hi Everyone..I've got a "65 C20. I installed a under the bed gas tank. It is mounted where the spare tire used to be. The filler hole is on one side. I've got the filler hose running from the tank between the frame rail & the bed, along under the bed for about a foot then up through the bed just in back of the wheel well. The gas cap is about an inch higher than the bed. I ran a separate air vent hose along the same route coming up next to the filler pipe with a pet-cock so it can be opened when I put fuel in.
My problem is that I can put only very small amounts of gas at a time or it bubbles up & overflows. Very small amounts. It takes forever to put even $3.00 in the tank. What can I do? There is another air vent on the tank that is not being used. Thanks
 
I'm guessing, based on your description of the filler location, that that 90 degree is too close to the opening of the filler.
Most fillers are located in the center of the bed with a straight drop into the tank.
My panel has a side filler into the rear tank. The run of the filler hose from a door on the 1/4 panel takes a 45 degree bend at the top of the frame rail.
The 90 is probably too much to allow the fuel to flow smoothly without cavitating and causing the auto shutoff at the pump to trigger.

I have to take the bed back off to fix a few other things. A good time to see if I can work out a way to fill it straight into the tank. I appreciate your advice.....I've seen the pictures of your panel.I think the engine in your truck is about the best I've seen. Very nice. Thanks Again. I'll let you know how it goes.

In the next month or so, all the misc bodywork, priming, block sanding and final paint will be finished. Stay tuened...

There wasn't much I could do about changing the filler tube but I did run a bigger air vent tube up through the bed. It isn't pretty but it works & fills normally now. I wish I had taken more time to research that particular project. The tank behind the seat was leaking, money was tight & I was in too much of a hurry. When I can I'll replace it with a good metal tank with a place for a center fill tube & run it straight up. There are some nice looking covered gas caps that sit flush with the bed.....How's the panel looking? Any pictures yet? You have your plug wires running through or under some kind of loom in the newer pictures of your engine. Are those something you made yourself? I like how they look.

Still in the shop. They havn't touched it in 4 weeks for various reasons that get more creative each time. I think the last one was,, " My dog ate the sandpaper "

Yea, I wittled them out of a 2 ft block of billet... ;)

Those are Billet Specialties. There are others out there, Check E-Bay.
