G body frame for 47-53

I tried to search but really didnt find much to tell me on this subject. I am looking at a 53 that is currently a roller on a 1979 Monte Carlo frame, the owner swears the entire frame not just sub framed. (G body) I know from the research a long bed S-10 seems to be the way to go on this but has anyone used a G body or similar frame and what should I expect. I wont see it till this weekend to see how it fits but figured someone out there will have an answer. Thanks

G-bodys used a perimeter frame (see pic). The front stub is pretty heavy duty, after that it's just flimsey sheet metal formed into a "frame" that went under the perimeter of the car. Not a good choice to put under a truck. Grafting just the front stub to the existing truck frame is what a lot of people have done since the front track width is pretty good. Getting the front sheet metal to fit correctly is a real challenge.

Changing frames is a lot of work compared to updating the existing truck frame.

For what it's worth, most trucks I've seen for sale with a frame swap are never finished or driving, with the seller always claiming "all the hard work is done". Nothing worse then buying someone else's "project" and trying to make it right. Something to keep in mind.

Which is why I reccommend using stock frame with new IRS and updated rear end. You will pay one way or another. The headaches and the time figuring make the chassis swaps more or as costly in the end. A well engineered front end kit,( I use Fatman) is WELL worth the $$$ in time and headaches saved.

I know all about someone elses project, have a friend with a 67 pickup still in a hundred pieces. Looks like the best idea is to find one on an original chassis. Thanks for the info.

I have access to a good frame in NC.
