gas tank filler

I have a 1965 c10 stepside shortbox. installed rear gas tank kit from host and filler neck ends up right under rear bed brace and points to side, want tofill through stainless boat filler in rear bed, do I try using tubing bent at 90 attached to existing fill tube or is it possible to make new filler hole in top of tank by either rivets,solder, brazing or mig welding please give sugestions dont want to destroy new tank.

I'm not a real pro at this but, I have a truck just like yours and a friend of mine does also he got a new tank on his and found it easier to use extra pipe rather than ruin the tank. he put a smaller piece in/between the neck and the extra piece for more support and bent the end to where he wanted it about 6inches up from bottom of the fender well on the back side . hope this helps. Ikept mine in cab for now . hoping santa will get me under the bed conversion kit.
