Glass setting rubber/tape

Does anyone have any hints on how to get the glass in the bottom channel and in the vent channels without a great amount of difficulty? I have all new glass and the channels are clean and ready to be assymbled, just thought before I started I would get some expert help. The glass is just setting in the vent channels at this time. Thanks

Hey Boops Dad, do you have a copy of a shop manual? It has some pretty good info on the window and vent windows. If you don't have a copy go to www.chevy.tocmp.com and look at the '48-51 shop manual on that site.

I picked up the tape at an auto glass shop for my 53. I wrapped the tape onto the glass,then set it in the frames. Then trimmed the excess with a razor blade. It wasn't too difficult,but did take a bit of persuading with a rubber mallet. BE CAREFUL,LOL!

I always found washing up liquid useful for fitting glass in rubber and frames, doesnt attack the rubber and washes off afterwards, just makes things nice and slippy and takes the scary brute force bit out of it!

Tape on glass , clean the channel really well and tap into place using a mallet then trip the tape as needed .

Laying some carpet on the bench will prevent any camage to the frame...

I like to use a Dead Blow Mallet , get 'em cheaply @ Harbor Freight ~ no need top pay top dollar off the tool truck like I did 35 years ago...

Would I need to put anything on the tape to make it slip into the channel a little easier? Such as water that will evaporate?

I'd say no as any water trapped will not evaporate and will cause serious rust out on the channel...

It's really not so bad , you set the inverted channel on the carpet and BONK , BONK , BONK it in with the dead blow hammer or hard rubber mallet .
