Hello all,
My pickup is an original GM Fawn color and I am going to possibly repaint it this Summer sometime. I was wondering if any of you all out there has ever had any experence in this color and who has the best paint for this color? I know there are several manufacturers (duPont, ICI, PPG, ect.) of automotive paint, but I would like to have the best that money can buy, within reason of course. Does anyone happen to know what part number (or paint code) it was when you purchased it? If anyone out there has ever repainted their truck using this color (GM Fawn), which did you use or which do you recommend? When you had it repainted did you use a clear coat on it? I would like to achieve an original painted look, since I have kept the truck entirely stock as possible. I am not looking for a modern paint shine, just one like it had from the factory.
Yes, in case you have not figured out by now, I am one of those people that a lot of you collectors and enthusists just can't seem to understand, I am a true hardcore purist when it comes to restorations....keep it stock. I have practiced this with my 1965 C-10 from the beginning. I have only added items to the truck that was offered for that model year and also it has to have have matching GM numbers as well, no exceptions. That is the only way it finds a home on my truck. The only exception to this is in some of the engine parts such as the plugs, plug wires, distribitor, belt, hoses, ect.) Although I do use GM or AC Delco parts when possible, these numbers most likely do not match. That cannot be avoided most of the time. I do use Mobil motor oil in my truck, I am a long time Mobil oil user. That is the only oil I will use in my car and truck alike.
Well sorry to write soo much, please feel free to voice your opinions about the paint message above.
Thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you all soon.
