Greg List the three part numbers that you could not find and maybe I can shed some lite on this problem. Description and number. Gene
Oh dont get me started, Nate, a mate of mine drives a nicely sorted A55 as a daily, looks stock but suprises a lot of folk from the lights and round the bendy bits! brings back memories of my ol A35
Austin A-55 W/ " BMC " Special Tuning " Oh YEAH baby ! . I know just what to do , take an early three main bearing MGB 1800 engine and affix the carbies from a '57 MG magnette ZF stuff that under the hood (it's a true 100 % bolt up deal) , install a rebuilt smoothcase overdive tranny from a 1964 MGB , swap in the MG Midget 3.72 final drive pumpkin..... That's just to begin with I know where two A-55's are sitting in a mercedes junkyard , I bet the old man would sell 'em to me affordably... One is beat up but the other still has the cherished " flying " Austin A logo hood onrament....

Greg: The GMC Master Parts Book for 55.2-60 doesn't have those specific numbers, but it does have a complete section (group 20) dedicated to "standard parts" that includes bolts, nuts, washers, screws, pipe fittings, tubing fittings, grommets, etc. All 11 pages are full of well described parts such as: 20.0050 180034 Bolt (Hex Head) 1/4 - 20 x 1 1/2 20.0220 137404 Connector (Inverted Flare Tube) 1/8-27 ext., 3/8-24 int. w 3/16 line 20.0380 110731 Key (Woodruff) 3/32 x 5/8 20.0700 125735 Screw - Set (Hex Socket) 1/4-20 x 3/8 Cup point
Cross-ref Greg. I hope this helps. The 'FACTORY ASSEMBLY MANUAL' is a copy of the blue prints used by the factory to assemble the trucks. The standard part numbers used at the factory do not always match the replacement part numbers. The factory bought bolts by the barrel and the dealer bought maybe 50-100.(the barrel has one number and 50-100 another). The ASSEMBLY MANUAL prints were printed 1953-1954. So you must use a parts manual of the same era, 1929-1954 is a good one. You have to be a detective, use the ASSEMBLY MANUAL to locate where it goes on the truck and the PARTS BOOK to find the real numbers.Use the illustrations in the PARTS BOOK to find the groupe numbers. An example: I was looking up a bolt number but could not find it, so I looked up the nut number and found it. So that gave me the size and thread and I knew how long I needed. Gene
Bolts Greg I replaced every bolt on my 1951 AD. And I used this method. In a lot of cases, when in doubt I used grade 6 bolts. Gene.
Thanks Gene, I had just about discovered this method myself. This is the least fun I have had with the whole project. If there are any GM personnel out there that assembled the AD trucks... did you actually use the Factory Assembly Manual? As a former writer of Factory Assembly manuals, I find GM's of very limited use. If you don't have an order to the operation, you end up unassembling things far too often. Greg
