I will tell you this for nothing, I know a guy who has spent megga bucks on a home sound system and it incorporates 7 new style valve (ok ok tube) amps and I have to admit its the best system I have heard full stop, and I am into music and systems as a bit of a hobby, you cant beat the sound of valve amps, awesome! ________ Rolls-royce motor cars
Valve top Been playing guitar for 40 years. I would never even consider playing through anything other than a tube (valve top) amp and the older the amp, the better. There's just something about the tone of a high quality tube amp that just cannot be beat. Antique tube stereo equipment is highly sought after. These guys repair them and push some serious watts through them. The sound is unbelievable. I have a patient that makes it his hobby. Says they sound best when they have been burning for at least a half a day. Just cause the technology is old, doesn't mean it isn't any good. Andy
WARNING !! Thread Drift : SOUND Or , you can take an average home stereo and hook it up to some Advent speakers , they're still making the ones that put 'em on the map in the 60's.... I hooked up my stereo and TeeVee set to them and the sound is awsome indeed .
Did a job last year in a guys house and noticed this room with very expensive audio equipment in there, got chatting and he took me in there for a demo, it was fantastic BUT and there's a big BUT, his two cables to the speakers cost ?1,600!!! yep sixteen hundred folding for two cables about 10ft long each, the record deck was ?8,000 and the cd player was ?5,600 (the one he wanted was ?16,000!!!!!!!) this guy had not only been to crazy town but he was the mayor, no one on this planet can tell me that his cables were ?1,500 better than mine, i think its just a case of blowing sooooo much money on his gear made him feel that it was soooo much better. I spent ?5,000 (a present to myself when i moved home) on my home cinema audio equipment and sometimes i wonder if it matches up to that old radiogramme i used to have that not only sounded superb but felt superb too (if you ever hear a valve stereo you will know what i mean) Im waffling tell me to shut up ________ Bong
My wife and I went to what is called the parade of homes. It is about 6 different homes that are 2 million plus dollar homes for sale. The theatre room in the basement of a 3.5 million dollar home cost $100k for that room alone in electronics. Pretty cool setup and sounded unbelievable. But the problem with it was the money. That's a half decent home nowadays. Ah to be rich!!!
1954 AD radios are unique to 54 and 55 first pick-ups. If you have even a buildable case, it is worth real $. Have not found an aftermarket for the 54, had to have my old 54 radio re-configured to am-fm, it works just fine.

If you could afford them, you'd stack them, and blow your dorm neighbor out by taking 2 small advents stacked on one another, tweeters together, bass on each end and play Foghat's "Fool for the City" at full volume throughout Homecoming '75, while serving trash can punch all weekend? Happiness is a hot vacuum tube! Nothing smells better than a hot vacuum tube burning off dust in an old chevy radio. It is true that you should turn on an old 6 volt radio with the volume turned down and let it warm up first! Excessive amprege is any tube's enemy! Remember Ohm's law. E=IR. or as we used to say in EE lab, Eat It Raw!
