The ' Reluctor ' and I was thinking the same thing....

That " Iron Duke " 153 C.I. 4 Banger engine was a real slug , I hated the many Chevy II's fitted with it but it was quite popular in Boats , APU's , Gen Sets & Industrial Applications for many years, Trash Pumps and so on .

I may have turned the corner on this C/10's smoky 250 with the HEI ~ so far it's not fouled spak plug since installation so I've moved on to other tinkers it needs .

Better & Better

When I pulled the HEI setup out of the old Nova , I noticed it was fed by a 10 Ga. wire ~ when I installed it to my '69 C/10 , the sun was going down so I simply farm fixed the old 18Ga. yellow coil wire to it to see if it'd work or not ~ it ran so well , I left the funky patch wiring and have been driving it so since .

An Elder Hot Rodder in The Mayor's Garage downstairs told me I really should not be running it off the 7.5 volt calibrated resistance wire so last night I installed a power kicker relay on the firewall and ran 10Ga. wires from the starter's hot terminal to the HEI coil via the relay , the old ignition lead's 7.5 volts is plenty to kick the relay , when I test started it , the difference was startling ~ it runs even smoother now than before and hot soak starts (I just went to lunch) are nearly instantanious now too .

I cannot impress upon you alls how important it is to at the very least install a Pertronix Ignitor as that drives the stock ignition system to it's full output , $aving ga$ as well as making it run *so* much better , even on a tired old worn out engine .
