question:i have a '58 apache 32 long bed with original 283 v8,Rochester 2g,3 spd column shift,etc. the only bad thing about owning this truck,is the difficulty of finding info/and some parts specifically for the 283 equipped 58 apaches.if anyone knows of a source to help me with problem i would appreciate it.

What is it you need ? NAPA has pretty much anything you need , careful disemination of Rock Auto's OnLine Catalog will get you parts cheaply too...
The beauty of your truck as is is : if you simply maintain it , it won't require much in parts for years to come and will be a good driver as well as work ready .

youv'e come to the right place.the only request these guys have (myself included) is send pictures of your ride . the info i got from this site when i was restoring my 57 was a great help.Good luck

mostly what i need is info about the truck.paint colors and schemes,specs,and such.i believe mine was ocean green originally,it was repainted a darker green in the 60's but there is still some factory paint under the hood. i plan to go completely original,and that is hard to do with little info available.oh and a little history on my 58:i am the 4th generation to have it,bought in swansboro,nc brand new by my great grandfather.33,000 original miles,original motor,trans.only additions are radio(did not cut dash),and dual exhaust put on in early 90s.primered currently,but i plan to start work on it again soon.i appreciate any help you guys have to offer.

I don't know if you're aware that GM's name for this series of trucks was " Task Force " .
That's a very nice truck there and I applaud you for not destroying it as stock always lasts longer .
My buddy Garnet has one similar his dad bought , it's a 6 Banger ,my personal favorite .
Steady on then ~ you'll find everything you want to know right here , just take some time to read older posts and print out useful information .
ASK too ! the guys here have been really helpful to me over the years , someone always know what or how .
Don't forget to add a signature , use your name or ' handle ' we don't care but this is a *very* friendly group , you're with Family here .

yes i was.yeah, im tired of not being able to find a good example of and original.all people do is get their hands on one and drop a 350 with a 4 speed auto in it.if everyone does this,soon there wont be any left!this is what mine looked like originally,and hopefully what it will look like soon.

sorry i was one of those to drop a small block in my 57 .But all my mods are bolt on and retained all the original pieces if i ever want to go back original.My Dad was the second owner of my truck and it was fun to bring it back to life.I hope you have as much fun with your project as i did with mine.My wife says they circled the one that got it right.My last name is Ford.As far as the automobile,yes they circled the problem.

There are lots and lots of info to get outthere
for your paint: the plate on the door post will tell you what original color your truck was.
It's under the gross vehicle weight under: paint
For example 704 = polar green
You can find all that info in john Gunnell's book chevrolet pickups 1946-1972
This book made me wanna buy my first 1959 apache fleetside short bed
Just buy a truck shop manual and a factory assembly manual for your truck.
they are for sale plentyfull
Also a 1959 chevrolet truck operators manual will be a big help in maintaining your truck.(they are reprinted copy's of the original)
for instance: you will have to lubricate your trucks chassis every 1000 miles
If you do this you will notice it will handle and steer much nicer
If you wanna do some modifications that can really smoothen your ride buy the
"the classic chevy truck handbook" by jim richardson
for a complete restoration buy: How to restore your chevrolet pickup by Tom brownell.
(I'am starting to look like a booksalesmen)
Do not hack up and teardown your pride and joy before you know what your doing.
just take it one thing at the time otherwise you loose interest and money in your project.
make your modification/restoration bit by bit, and take her out for a spin.
They are so much fun to drive in.
And that way you'll keep your intrest and wallet healthy
And before all,just ask at this forum

A partial answer to your original question: Post the Vin number in this forum. There is a guy here that can tell you the factory color and some options based on that VIN.
It is hard to find an "Original".
I wanted a Hot Rod and my first purchase was the Green one, Sequili, that I have since decided to keep all original. 3200 Straight 6 with three on the tree.
Then I found one that someone else had already "ruined", Blue Thunder, to use as my Hot Rod platform.
My wife is forcing me to keep both. I have a wonderful wife and two wonderful trucks!
P.S. I win a lot more car shows with Sequili than I ever will with Blue Thunder.
