Hood latch question

I recently bought a 'glass hood for my 66' chevy truck and have a question about the operation of the factory latch. Shouldn't the release handle release not only the latch, but also the safety catch? The used one I bought only releases the latch and you have to manually release the safety catch. I didn't know if there is something I'm overlooking on this latch or if something isn't working right. Any info is appreciated. Thanks, Chris

The latch on my 1961 works just like you described. The safety latch has to be released manually. Even on my 1991 which is released from inside the cab is the same.

On my 64 the hood latch releases both the latch and the safety catch.

Thanks for the replies guys! I figured the problem out last night. As I said earlier, this latch is going on a fiberglass hood, and I had to cut part of the latch support out of the way in order for the safety catch to release with the release handle. It now operates the latch and the safety. Again, thanks for the help. Chris
