Old skool That pic of the truck from behind in the field looks just like an old advertisement, has the feel of a 50's chevrolet brochure
Feeling old.... Am I the only one who remembers a song " I'm a Ding Dang Daddy From Dumas " ?? . Jeeze , do I feel old right about now .
My daughter's tribe and I drive through Dumas at about 6AM on the way to Colorado to ski each March. I tried to sing this song one time on the way through and was hit with a shower of physical trash and verbal abuse from all the other occupants of the van. Don't know if it was the song lyrics, my singing or both that they didn't like.
The Question Is Then , ?? Didja get to see Mr. Burnside ?? I can't sing for spit neither but that doesn't stop me from torturing the others in the truck on long drives .
Sort of what I was doing, except I was also trying to stay awake. We leave Houston around 7PM and by the time we get to Dumas it is 5-6 AM and I've been awake for almost 24 hours and driving for an hour or two. Don't stop for more than just gas until Raton NM.
For all the recent newbies, check this out! This is one of the best threads ever posted on the internet! If you only get one "pearl of wisdom" from it, it's one more than you'll get from most! Thanks again Russ for taking the time to document in such great detail what a lot of us struggled through! Keep on truckin' baby! Ken
Ken, You could not put it any better, the way the whole build was documented will be used by many for years to come. Keep up the great work Russ.
I would ask that this thread be a sticky like Old Navy Trucks and Kelle's 54 Chevy. I don't know the criteria or the process but I believe this thread is worth it. Gater
I'll definately be there. Join us on the 3rd floor parking deck of the Sand Castle South, always something going on with the Retarded Sparks!
I need to properly thank many people who had a hand in this build: Jim Parr for paying the bills. H&H machine, Indian Land, SC, engine machining and building. City Body Shop, Rock Hill, SC. paint and body. Brewer Automotive, Charlotte, NC. Trans. rebuild, final check over. James Clements, Classic Speed and Custom, Charlotte, NC. Helping hands and use of his lift in the final stages. Manny from Paint Guys, Charlotte, NC. Unbelievable final cleaning and buffing of paint and chrome. Classic Parts, Jim Carter, Dave's Truck Parts, Truck Shop, Steele Rubber...for all the parts Quickly. Dave (davidack4) for help in wood works. B.J. Bigham, for those hard to find parts...(They were in the woods). Diamonback Tires....Beautiful whitewalls. Charlotte metal finishing, Charlotte, NC....reviving old stainless to look like chrome. Thanks, Nick! Along with the ability to ask ANY question on this forum, this thread is equally helpful. Thanks for putting it where we can find it!
Now I'm feeling kinda sticky! Thanks for the appreciation. I also forgot Aultman easy latches! Every one of these trucks need these!
I'm really happy this thread got a 'Sticky'. I plan to use it often, as I have already. Thanks to Ol Chebby for all the work to make it so user friendly. If you'd get it printed into a book, I'd surely buy a copy.
