I might need an other front fender

I have a 1950 gmc 3/4 ton and i was wondering if the front fenders on my gmc are the same as the front fenders on a chevy because if i think i really need one I don't know were i can get one if they aren't the same. Please help me out.
 
Don't worry- Be happy!

Don't take my word for anything (except board width for bed boards) but I believe you'll find the fenders are the same. Except the metal is thicker and better quality:D The only place the front ends really part company is the hood and of course... the grill. You could swap the grill and hood on yours and have a Chevy in no time! Arrrggg! But EVERYONE has a Chevy! Me? I love the ugly look of a GMC! I'll have a couple of dinged up fenders to share, along with everything else on my 3/4 except the cab, steering column, bumpers, inner fender wells, radiator, and lights next spring. I'm on the outter northern fringes of Texas...:rolleyes:
 
The fenders interchange but minor body work may be required in the parklight area .

Anytime you're asking for parts or hands on help , it helps to say where you're located as old Truckers are scattered across the Globe .

It'd also be good to mention if you need a passenger or drivere's side as many folks here have stuff just lying about they don't want to toss out and will pop up and offer it cheaply... (THANX for all the help guys !)

That nasty' long motor ' in your Jimmy ? it's terrible and will cause your hair to fall out and your kids to get poor grades , I'll be a pal and come over , take it far away on friday O.K. ? :rolleyes:
 
Uhhh, yeah, right. The um parking lights would be a problem for convertin' to Chevy from GMC... Or maybe Chevy owners may decide to add those lights to make things totally interchangeable?
Nate- about Friday- I'm feared you'll have to make that trip @ June. I'm to tied up with teaching 'till then and I'll need to get the frame ready to put the cab on it. If you time it right, you can help me put the cab on my frame and then just hook up the whole dang 3/4 frame and take it with you! Deal?:cool: I rebuilt two wheel cylinders (Back), put two new rebuilt ones on the front. New brake shoes and springs all the way around, mostly new lines, and I rebuilt the master cylinder. It really needs to be replaced though- just a might to pitted to stay dry on the outside. Oh- and I'll need the radiator. The frame comes equiped with all fenders and bed. So mark your calendar, K?:D
 
Jason, to bad you don't live around here. There are 3 old yards that have nuttin' BUT this old stuff laying around. One guy who ships is "Tom's Truck Parts" in Miami, Oklahoma. Cheap stuff. Used of course, but highly workable! All you guys with the bigger rigs that have a hard time finding parts, I'd check this guy out. Don't know for sure, but I believe it's www.tom'strucks.com. OR you can come out when Nate's here and help me move my cab for a fender. If that's okay with Nate... Now I just need one other person on the end of that other landscape timber...:rolleyes:
 
Hey Zig, hang on I'm coming for that other timber. As far as for the price of a fender, as long as it's rears that's fine with me!!!:D
 
Cab Swap

Back when I was young , dumb and , er uh well you know :rolleyes: I swapped the cab on my '46 , I used a plain old Dodge tow truck to hoist it up
using ropes or slings , I don't recall which ~ the cab just _barely_ cleared the tops of the 7.00X16" tires I had on the rig but two of us got it done pretty easily .

Too bad Kansas City is so far away , I'd love to walk that junkyard .

Soon as the sun comes up I'm off to my favorite P-A-P for vintage Mercedes parts agin .
 
Well it's not KC exactly, I live in the SE corner of Kansas. Pittsburg. There is one yard here and the one in Miami, Oklahoma, and one at Goodman Missouri. (About 40 minutes east of here.) Two of the three saw the older owners have major medical problems that resulted in them closing 'till further notice. I went to each one only once before they closed. Bad omen? But what I saw.... o lordy! It's probably the same reaction a convict gets when he sees his first woman after bein' locked up for ever! ALL those rows of beautiful r-o-u-n-d-e-d fenders, hoods and cabs! Ohhhhhhhhhh STOP ME!:D
 
No more bone yards for you, they'll all close and then what will we do?:rolleyes: Just kiddin. I went to a yard in St.Geneveve MO. and was the exact same way. Anything you could imagine from about 1948 down to the mid teens. It was a beautiful site, almost brought a tear to my eye.:D
 
The gentle , reverse compound curves on our trucks make it fairly easy for a body man to hide serious damage or rust repairs ~ my passenger side front fender has , oh say 35 # of Bondo in it :eek: but since the truck came to me with a brandy new paintjob on it , I left it alone . :rolleyes:

What the hell , it's my work truck and looks great from 300' away....
