I think I got Swindled

Unfortunately, I know nothing about transmissions, which is the one thing on my '65 I cannot get right. My TH-350 broke the 2nd gear sprag so I took it to a shop with the very simple instruction of "Fix my truck so I can sell it." They, from what I understood, basically rebuilt the transmission and put in a new torque converter because "It had metal in it." $950 later, I drove the truck home only to turn right around an go back thanks to a vibration in the driveline. They had to "adjust" the drive shaft, they said. I drove it home again. 16 miles later, I hear a clink, it stops shifting, and wouldn't you know when I get pulled over and stopped all my tranny fluid is draining out of the truck. I crawled under and there is a hole in the right side, just above the pan, where you can tell that something had fit inside there at one point.

So what do I do? I have a warranty, so do I have them try again, or should I try to get my money back?
 
Yup, Take it back and have them make it right.
I hope the trans shop is not the one that advertises with "two horn beeps"..... THAT could be the root of the problem right there... Have them make it right, anything else will result in more money out of your pocket.

Okay, thanks. I'm calling them first thing and having them pay the tow bill! Hopefully it will hold together in case someone wants to test drive her.
 
Keeps notes and records of everything. Even take photos if you can. Go back and talk nicely with the manager. If you go in yelling at them they will be less likely to work with you. I know how much it sucks, but unfortunately a lot of places have taken the model that the customer is always wrong and are just an annoyance.

I brought my 97 Jeep in to get the transmission checked out for a free estimate. After it was dropped off they called and said they checked everything they could for free and it would be $60 for them to remove the tranny and disassemble. Then they could tell me what was wrong with it. When I asked what it might coast to repair he said he could not guess until it was all apart. After pressing him for a bit he finally said that these usually cost between $1,500.00 and $2,500.00. I drove it home and ended up rebuilding it myself. Cost me about $800.00.
 
please tell me you didnt take it to AAMCO, i honestly dont know how they stay in buisness, every thing they work on breaks at least 10 times!!!! :eek:
 
Curious as to what You found out & where you took it Aimless .

Sounds like They didn,t tighten the bolt on the vacume modulator ( Pretty sure it has one ) & it fell out , If it was hooked to the Vacume line it Might still be hanging there somewhere . Hope You get it sorted out at no more cost to You.

If thats what it was, Perty simple fix, as long as You didn,t run it to long low on Fluid .
