Identify Chevy V8 Engine and Auto Gearbox

Hi All,

I've bought a chassis which belonged to a 1975 Chev C10. It came complete with V8 engine and auto gearbox, but I'm pretty sure these are not original.

How can I identify the engine and gearbox accurately.

All help will be greatly appreciated.

You will need to get the casting numbers.They are on the left side at the back of the block.Their is also a stamped number on the right side up front by the head.Get those two numbers and you will be able to tell what year the block is and what vehicle it was in.Try this site for casting numbers.
