Hello all,

I'm just curious what ignition switches you're using on your AD trucks?

A little background, I have a '49 3100 with a 12v system. I have accessories too that'd I'd like to run without the engine on.

I tried using this switch: Ignition Switch With

With this bracket: Ignition Switch Mounting Bracket

and it was too short and didn't reach the face of the dash.

Are there better alternatives?

Thanks!

The switch you pointed to is not a stock switch because it has 5 terminals including one for a starter solenoid which our generation of old trucks did not have.

Our host lists Ignition Switch - Original Type-Classic Chevy Truck Parts which I have used successfully. You will also need this mounting bracket Ignition Switch Bracket-Classic Chevy Truck Parts if you do not have one.

The switch does not come key and cylinder, so you will also need one of these https://www.classicparts.com/1947-66-Ignition-Switch-Cylinder-w_Key/productinfo/53-475/
or one of these, if you want all locks keyed the same :
47-51 Complete Lock Set-Classic Chevy Truck Parts
52-53 Complete Lock Set-Classic Chevy Truck Parts
54-55.1st Complete Lock Set-Classic Chevy Truck Parts
depending on what year model your truck is.

Hi Bill, and thanks for you response/help. I didnt even think about stating that I have a 12v system running on my 283ci V8 with electronic ignition distributors. Sorry about that. Does that change which types of switches I can use?

Waitaminnit ! .

The switch proper doesn't care about 6 or 12 volts .

If you retain the foot starter you can use the original typ ignition switch and retain the set back and illumination it has .

If you're using a solenoid typ starter it's a very simple thing to use two large flat washers ("fender washers") on the pedal hole and mount as heavy duty momentary contact switch to operate the starter's solenoid .
