Ignition Wiring Problem

Hi,

I recently installed all new stock wiring harnesses (from Classic Parts) on my 1960 Chevy Stepside. Went to start it up and when I turn the key to the first position the engine turns over. It shouldn't turn over until it gets to the second position (where you hold it). Obviously it is a wiring issue and I'm positive everything is wired correctly under the hood. I'm wondering if I have wired something incorrectly under the dash but I can't figure out what it could be. Any advice?

check to see if you have the "run" and "start" wires backwards on the ign. switch.

Many of the new switches are bad. I don't know if your switch came with the wiring harness, a new auto parts piece, or the original. I went through 3 new switches before I found one that worked. This is very common with the cheap replacement switches. One mine checked good with an ohm meter until the center wire lug was tightened. Then it showed up as bad. A buddy of mine had the same problem as you. He did not have his neutral safety switch adjusted yet. He was wiring a Model A street rod. He was laying under the dash and reached up to put the switch in the run position. He did NOT hit the start position. It started and the car ran into his paint booth before he could get out from under the dash and stop it. The result was one crashed front fender and a little later an ignition switch bouncing off the shop walls.
