Can anyone give me an idea of what one of these motors are, worth I am looking at a 31 chevy sedan and it comes with an extra motor both motors are supposed to be in running order.not sure if they are 216 or 235 Thanks Joe
If they came out of a 31 they are neither-- I believe the engine of that time was 194 c.i. with 50 horsepower. You may be looking at later engines- 1932 had 194 mc.i. with 60 hp. the next engine was 208 c i (used thru 1936). A 216 was introduced in 1937 and the 235 in 1941 (it may have been used only in trucks--). If you find the engine numbers, someone here may be able to identify the years for you. n Good luck. Glenn
Used 216 / 235 Value These are worth about $150 +/- fan to clutch *if* they're in running order . It takes time to sell these so if you're building a Hot Rod , don't give up as sooner or later I'll send someone to you who'll buy it . Many '31s were upgraded to 125's in the 1960's when they were plentiful so be sure to clean and copy the serial numbers on the smooth flat pad near the distributor , then post them here or go to The Inliner's Site where they'll have de coding info . One the one hand , I'd think an original 1931 Chevrolet engone to have good Dollar value but , it isn't always so ~ my buddy had a '32 Plymouth engine , tranny , rear end , 5 wheels & hub caps etc. all in very good shape and low miles, he waited three years for the $150 or _any_ cash offer before loading it into the scrap tailer......
