Sorry Zig, just wanted to express, that even i, as a more kind of bodyman,
could tackle this task with Evans explanation;)

I?m glad, that you really made some progress, on getting your truck back on the road, where it belongs:):)

Keep up the good work, i?m sure, you and your mother will sure enjoy a cruise in the truck, once ready to go for a ride.

    Off topic:

Just came back from a three week California road trip with the missus, and saw a few AD trucks cruising along the highways, and also a few others, sitting and waiting:(

    Thanks!

    I'll get there.
I once remember a guy who didn't know me very well scoff at the idea I wanted to build an acoustic guitar. "You might as well stretch rubber bands across a cigar box~ That's as close as YOU'LL ever get."
Guess who was the first person I played a tune for on my home made acoustic guitar?
So I spent today (okay, well PART of the day) bringing the inside of the other fender down to bare metal and then hitting it with self etching primer. The outside of the fender awaits tomorrow's light~

    Nice Work Zig !

What is that ball on the drill motor you used to clean the metal ? .

There used to be " Flit Balls " that worked like that .

That's the plan, Brian! Nate, that ball is actually a 3M wheel. They do a fantastic (but s-l-o-w) job of removing paint!
Next, the hood~ Oh boy, another million square inches to do at 1 minute per square inch. :(

I'm thinking the pinion angle isn't quite right~

I thought this was correct, but now that I look at it...

    Gotcha?

You know I'm just fooling around, right?
Bellow is a picture of the stripped, original back axle. All parts have been removed, cleaned, and await welding onto new Colorado! I'm loving that all those are able to be used again! I just need to get Nate's recipe for cleaning old bolts, as I want to clean up those old bolts that hold the axle to the springs.

    Zig, some food for thought!

You're using a regular electric drill with the 3M stripper, correct? Most electric drills I've seen operate around 800-900 rpm. Have you given any thought into getting an air powered drill? They operate around 1700-1800 rpm. I stripped alot of paint and rust off of mine using those 3M pads and an 1800 rpm air drill and it didn't take long at all!

Harbor Freight and Northern Tool both have them for less than $20.

But then Ziggy would need a lot of air to turn the drill.

Wait. No problem. Zig already has an abundance of hot air. ;)

    Thanks Ken!

Father's Day is coming, and Home Depot has a much better compressor than what I have (on wheels, even) that is priced right. I'd have to have it plugged in close to home, as the current doesn't like traveling through extension cords to get to my garage, and I can't run power direct until it is a "real" garage. (With poured floor and driveway...)
So, as I say, more time than money... But it's a nice thought to think of as I'm wheeling away~~~~

Keep it up, Zig... you're gonna be cruisin' soon. Then I'll have to get off my duff and get my truck done, so I can drive down to Kansas for a photo op.

Made it over to Joplin and now all the old parts are beautifully welded to the new axle!!!
You know I'll post pictures as soon as I have it painted up and installed.
Tomorrow I'm up to KC to fish with my brother. Worms would probably work better though... ;)

Look at my new rear end!!!!

Okay, Damon, pictures it is! No more stinkin' jack stands for this truck unless it's short term, like it's SUPPOSED to be!
I am a happy camper. Slowly but surely the items get checked off until one fine day...
This was the hottest friggin day so far this summer, but that's why there's water to drink, right?
But now it's time for a manly drink to celebrate! :p

Congrats, Paul! Thanks for posting the pictures. I'm not gonna make a comment about what a nice rear end you have... but that axle sure looks great! Hahahaha!!! Just keep pluggin' away at the list. You'll be cruizin' down the road before you know it.
