:)I am restoring a 1954 chev pickup and am having a hard time finding the right colour. I think it is Mariner blue. I was thinking that it might be possible to add some metallic to a dark blue and match it to look like the shade of Mariner blue for the year 1954. Could anyone give me advice on what I could do and should do? I was advised to use urathane paint.

I don't know if this will help you or not but at least it gives a compartive of the colors.

James, I used a PPG polyurethane base coat/clear coat system that is based on the Mariner Blue in the paint Chip from the above chart. It is the right color that my truck was originally (early 1953 Norwood Ohio), but too nice to be on a vintage truck as a daily driver (but I drive it anyways). Much thanks to my freind Gregg who painted it. I prepped each individual piece of sheet metal and took over to his shop and retreived the previous batch over a period of a year - they all matched!
I look forward to seeing your truck.

Your local auto paint store can call into the PPG (Ditzler) Color library and get the formula for antique paints. The guys here that are sharp on computers can also go to the color library site.

54 interior color

Very simple,, tell them you want a quart of "Mobil Gray". Single stage. Then just hand rub it to where you want it.
No clear coat! They didnt have that back then.
It will end up looking about as orig. as you can get it. And youll be very happy with it.
Good luck,

Old colour versus fresh new paint.

If still have a old peace of metal with good color quality on it its posseble to let them scan measure the color and get it mixed allmost exact the way it whas in the old time when GM used Ditzler or Dupont colors. A car painting shop nearby will be able to mix it i`ll gues ? The system is named Glasurit RATIO Scan II. Glasurit is the brand name of the paint.

The instrument has proven to be very reliable. If you can not locate the code on your car, or the right shade, you can submit a sample that we can scan and searching out the right paint. The sample can be a part (mirrors, fuel cap, etc.) or a "cut" the size 5x5 cm.

Good luck hunting.
