On second thought,both door handles had locks when I bought the truck(did not know it was unusual at the time. I bought it in 87.
It is a 53 3 window. I KNOW THAT i CAN BUY NEW STUFF, but if I can fix the old that's what I want to do.
Nate, I too was born in New Hampshire, and try to stretch the dollar,or a least spend it where I have to.

New V.s Old Parts

Whenever possible , re use the original parts as the new stuff is always lees quality .

Sometimes , you just have to bite the bullet , after my passenger door popped open whilst driving , I bought N.O.S. door latches from Joe (DeadZoneTrucking) ~ worth every penny .

I looked at the repop latches and there's several Chinese manufacturers of them , some are O.K. , the ones I saw @ The Truck Shop , were CRAP and couldn't possibly work .

In your opinion, which repops are 'O. K.' to use? Where did you get them? Price?

Trique is really the way to go. I am now a dealer. I have yet to find repo latches that work. The ones I put on my truck had to have latch savers in order to work at all. Gennie ones have a lot of wear, but if you can find some that were taken off the road early in the game, you may have some luck.

Thanks for the info. I've read all of those threads before. The money isn't there right now for the fancy stuff. I was hoping Nate would chime back in and let me in on who the 'decent if they're fixed by the end user' latch manufacturer is.

I also appreciate that same suggestion in my build thread ol' chebby... but as I stated, I can't spend $350 on door latches right now.

AD Door Latches

I never did find out who had the decent repop latches because Joe (DeadZoneTucking) took pity on my after my ever so carefully repaired & serviced original latch failed.....

FWIW , some years ago they were less than $350 each ~ Trique is O.K. but I'm not keen to cut up my original old truck .

You should write Joe and ask him , don't forget to figure in freight costs .

Door latches , like brakes & steering , are safety items , never to be short cut nor fudged on .

Had my Sweet gone flying out the popped open door instead of tools , lunchbox and everything else in the cab , I'd never have forgiven myself .

I have my new keys for the two doors,and ignition. The lock smith did not have any keys with the GM logo,no big deal.. It was only $16 for three keys and getting the locks lubed.

I was trying to get the glove box lock out of the cab. I can't figure out how to remove. ANY HELP????

Glove Box Lock

There's a tiny slotted screw on the back of the lock , remove it and slide the delicate pot metal housing back and off , the lock cylinder comes out to - wards you .

DON'T loose that screw ! .
