What is a good brand of rattle can primer? Is Rustoleum junk?
I'm finally working on my fenders and would like to get them in primer before the bottom falls out temp wise.
    TIA

You really want to use a high build primer. You can pick up a cheap HVLP spray gun from Harbor Freight and spray it yourself. It is thick enough tht the primer will actually fill small voids and dips.

Etching has some acid in it to help "bite" the bare metal.
High build have more body (thicker) and build up to help cover and fill small pits and depressions, sometimes multiple coats during wet sanding will fill small dings.
Epoxy is just that....has hardner and is non porus, better if you aren't going to paint right away. Regular primer is porus and will let water seep through to the metal, which is why it will rust through the paint eventually.
Rattle can can work, but the quality and small price difference for real primer is well worth it.
