drained the 60 yr old oil from the 52 one ton pickup 4 speed. it was like water and a very nice carmel colour. yum.
am trying to close up the holes someone drilled in the roof for turn signals - why they didn't just fix the turn signals i'll never know.
plan on having the frame shortened 21 inches so the old short box i found will go on.
i am going to take out the short shaft between the steady bearing and trans and lengthen the driveshaft to fit. any one else already done this? how did it work out?
am going to use as much of the one ton parts as possible as it runs and drives. huge drum brakes, springs and axle.

I asume you have the original torque tube (rearend and drive shaft) if thats the case its very difficult to shorten or lengthen them.

pardon my naivety but why not?

why would it not be ok to remove the steady bearing and stub shaft lengthen the driveshaft after cutting out 21 inches from the frame? is the angle too much?

Not sure if anyone has done that. I had to have my driveline shortened when I changed out to the 342/1.
Not sure if jnycnuk's 1q ton is the 9ft. bed but the 2, the 48 and the 52, have the open 2 piece shafts.

some photos of the rear end and drive shaft

here are some pictures of what i'm working on from the trans back.
