my ´53 finally made it to Austria

There are different T5's some with little overdrive, like 10%...no point in using them, but there are some T5's with more like 25% IIRC. You must use one with a mid-tranny shifter or it will come too far back in the floor.

I think you will soon see that the SM420 is for "Cavemen". Although the "Granny Low" first gear will go up any hill with a load. They say the T5's are plentiful...but I don't find them that readily available.
 
So the best T5 would be that one?

I have two T-5's. I just bought a T-5 for my project truck not long ago. The one I already had on hand was a later model with the electronic speedometer connection. I wanted one with the cable drive speedometer, so I found one. They're out there, you just need to really beat the bushes to find them.

Just curious... what part of Iowa did your truck come from? I'm in the very southeast corner of the state. One of my trucks came from Iowa, too... the other one from Kansas City, Kansas.

But I´m sure I will find one here or maybe in Germany.
End of April I will be in LA, but I´m afraid I can´t take T5 in my handluggage back home!? :confused:

My truck came beginning of 2011 from Redfield, IA 50233...probably you know it. Was from an older guy named Steve, he has many motorcycles (mostly Harleys)

Rear End

O.K. , that's a " Babbit Pounder engine there , prolly a 216 , might be a 235 but you really don't want it if you want to run a T5 tranny .

The rear end , in pic # 14 you can just see the park brake cable hole in the backing plate , it's held on by two 7/16" (11MM) ATF bolts , the park brake cables will go in there and connect to a long arm that hangs down & has a sort of hooked end to it .

I've heard of places that will make you custom park brake cables to suit , once you know how long the sheath and center part need to be .

The rear end to spring attachment looks strange , if it's all solid and has good even support , it'll prolly be O.K. ,make DARN SURE before driving it though , some " Farm Fixes " are really bad and can be dangerous .

I like the VW Typ III K-Ghia ! I've had a few , those were not sold in America .
