Need speedo drive gear that goes into tranny

My '47 speedometer needs the drive gear that mounts to the 'bullet' which then it meshes with the drive gear in the transmission. My drive gear has straight cut teeth not helical. Would anyone have any idea of some places to call to find this drive gear? I notice on some old posts a "Patrick's" might be able to help. Any other ideas? Thanks!
 
Thanks for mentioning Patricks. This time my search found them. I'll try them tomorrow. I think I'm all stock. I've got the casting and etching numbers on my transmission. Someone would have to tell me where to look for rear end ID.
 
I just tried Patrick's

Patrick gave me a lot of extra tidbits of info and education, but all I ended up with was Good Luck and Happy Hunting, he did not have anything for me. I guess my search goes to finding a '47 3 on the floor 3/4 ton transmission somewhere.
 
Everybody throws those Trannies out.....are you sure its a 3 speed or is there a granny-low. I have one but the gears may not be right....you need a scholar on this board. The gears are just press-on so there are different tooth numbers for different rear-ends and trannies. I think the extra one I have I got from Patrick....for a 3:55 rear-end. I can count the teeth if you can't find other resources.
 
Got a few of those laying around but.... without a tooth count & a gear depth measurement.... We don't have any idea which one is correct for your particular application.

DeadZone, yes you have few laying around, I wish my truck was there to test one or two out. I've got a friend with a bore scope, maybe he and I could get a count to the teeth. What do you mean by 'gear depth measurement"? I'll try to add a picture I have of my trans. I'm guessing your 3rd or 6th from the left my work, but guess only.

You can't just mix & match & "test" these....
If the tooth count is not correct from the get-go.... The 2 gears will grind each other into stripped metal shavings & nubs in seconds.

Gear depth ? ......here are your choices...

So if I give you an accurate count of the teeth on the drive gear, you can tell me which one of the driven gears I need????
Another question, how are the driven gears retained in the 'bullet'? I have the bullet that came with my truck but nothing on the inside of it. Maybe someone before me did the mix match and that is why nothing is on or in my bullet. Do I repair mine with a bullet and gear assembly? Thanks
 
This is an easy problem to fix.....don't dispair. You need to know the tire height, pinon gear tooth count and then it can be calculated by readily available formula's. You may not have the original rear-end. Many have been swapped over the years.

If your old piece is good except missing driven gear....a re-phone to Patrick might find he has the necessary gear. He swapped mine when I went with 3:55 gears. He probably has many original gears laying around. He doesn't like to sell the whole unit as he uses them for customers purchasing his gears. They are limited in numbers.
