Thought I would say howdy to everybody. I have been looking here for a while and really enjoy reading all this good stuff. Im putting a 53 gmc together these days and was wondering if anyone has ever married the rear frame of a s10 to the front of the AD frame. I've got this one in the making and it seems to be going good just thinking if it has ever been done and the problems that went with it other then getting it welded straight. Ill try to get a photo or 2 and put here but not to smart on these computers.
 
I'd think the opposite (front of S10, rear of old truck) would be a better, but not necessarily worth doing, answer. At least you'd get disk brakes, independent FRONT suspension, later engine and tranny.

Why not just put the axle in and skip putting the new rear frame with the old front?
Is yours a 3/4 ton?
 
Thanks for the Welcome Zig, its a 1/2 ton and had a little to mush rust to deal with around the rear frame and I got a 99 s10 for a steal with a rebuilt rear end so what the heck why not. It seem like a good ideal at the time anyhow.
 
Since you already have the S10, why not consider using the whole S10 frame and swap the body onto it. It's been done many times before with good results. There are companies that make the brackets to do the switch for our trucks. Sounds like the original frame is toast.

I really did think about the frame swap but didn't want to do all the work of on and off fitting of sheet metal. I've done a lot of frame work in the pass so this was to me the EZ way to do it with out breaking the bank. Its not going to be a show truck, kind of a mix hot rod and or rat rod looking thing but not to wild. Thanks for the welcome, trying to get the pictures soon.
 
Thanks ccharr, interesting stuff. The front half of my frame is fine and the sheet metal will bolt back on just like it came off, saves a lot of work. I'm running a 250 inline so don't need to beef up to all that big horse power. I will have to cut my bed down a little, it was a long bed.

Sounds like a good rig to me ! .

I always prefer the InLine powered rigs as I work my old GM Shop Truck as well as enjoy it .

Be aware : there's some serious GMC ENVY here so don't be upset when we tease you about your Jimmy , O.K. ? :) .

We love pictures , it doesn't have to be shiny ! .
 
Thanks for the welcome Nate, but here's why some people should not me allowed to own welders. lol . Well I tried, but just cant figure out how to put pictures on here. I'm working on it, might take a while.
 
I think this computer is not smart enough to put pictures of this stuff on here,yep that's what it is cause surely I'm not that dumb, I think Ill go back and build on my truck, its much EZer. {maybe my bride can figure it out}...
 
Maybe I can help with the picture thing~

The way I post pictures is to use the "Reply to Thread" button. (It's the way you can also put a title like the "Maybe I can help..."
If you scroll down, you will see a "Manage Attachments" button.
Click on it. You will then see a window pop up that has 5 "Browse" buttons.
Click on one of those, and that should lead you to be able to open wherever you have your pictures stored on your computer. Click on one and select open. It should then say "uploading image". It will the show it has. Click the box of browse options closed and post the reply.

It took me over a year to figure it out.....

At first I had to down load the photos to my desk top then attach them one by one , in time I figured out how to add them easier...(example) Nate&Goofy.on.CM91.gif
