New truck, need info

Just got my new truck, new to me that is. Its a 1963 GMC, 305 V6, short bed, fleetside?(not a step),and it has a 4 speed manual tranny.

Is there a book that has the tune up info for this truck, and where can I get it? Also I would like to be able to get better gas milage, is it possible to change the rear gears? This truck has torque to spare, and I don't expect to pull any stumps with the granny gear, I would like to turn 1800 at 65. Right now I don't have alot of money (or a garage) so the 350/350 swap will have to wait.

Now I just need to recall the way to set the points!! I don't suppose you know of an electronic ignition system for this motor??? Got to start the tune-up while there is still sunlight.

There are a lot of electronic ign. systems in the aftermarket , a trip to the parts store will tell you what you can get,, also take the dist. number with you it is helpfull...

you should have a dist cap with a door for dwell adjustment. install new points (they should come setup to have approx right gap)
use 1/8" allen wrench to set dwell with dwell meter and then set timing

don't forget to remove and plug vac advance

Thanks again for the info, found my gears and a posi ( on an 1964 F**D!!) Turns out I got a DANA(SPICER) 44, and these were fairly common. The gears were on a 68 Wagoneer (3.31). Less than 100 for all of it.
