I have a 1964 C20 Long bed, coil rear springs that I just installed a th700R4 tranny. I went with one piece shaft because of the distance between the end of the tranny and rear end. I only had to remove the old Drive Shaft Support Bearing. The new one piece shaft rides nicely in the space where the shaft support bearing once was. [email protected]
I'm going to put a 700r4 in my 65. How much modification did you have to do to the stock trans mount/crossmember? How much longer is the 700r4 case than the Powerglide? Thanks!
We removed the old 4SP tranny and E-Brake. We also had to cut the rivets for the Trans cross member. Then flipped the cross member over and moved it to the location where the PowerGlide cross member would have been. All we had to do with the original 4 speed Tranny cross member was bolt it to the factory drilled holes in my frame rails and install a Transmission mount for the 700R4 to the cross member. My 700R4 was out of a 1985 Chevy 1500 Truck so the lockup was hydraulic. No need for extra wires. I'm not sure how much longer, if any, the 700r4 is compared to the powerglide. Tonight I'll check the length of the case and the length of the 1 piece shaft we had specially made for my configuration. This weekend I’m removing the 1972 CBK V8 350 Chevy motor for a brand new GM crate motor so I’ll have all the measurements you could want by Monday afternoon the 11th of Feb. 2002. I have photos if you what to see them of the Tranny swap. Email me if you want them.
