Ok i got a bar that said it was for a 4in drop or more now here is the problem. I took the old one off and the rearend lined itself back up pretty good now the one i bought is about 2in longer than the stock one and is going to kick the rearend back over but worse. does anyone know how long the bar should be? It has to be shorter than stock right? thats the only way it would look right to me. But this is new to me thats why i'm asking you guys. thanks for any help.

You need an ADJUSTABLE panhard bar.... Was to new one you have adjustable ???

Yes it is adjustable and all the way in it is still about 2in longer than stock. just dont seem right to me. i was just wondering if anyone knew what the length should be for the adjustable bar.

find center line of your chassis.

find center line of your axle.

measure difference
measure length of p/bar as it sits

+/- the axle and chassis offset as needed.

cut bar, rethread.

I had to cut mine down and weld a threaded adapter to accept the rod end. At that point, don't go by what other people have for their track/panhard bar length, go by what the best measurement will be for your application.

I know this sounds stupid but i have to say it. So the bar does have to be shorter right? And is everyone spending 75 to 100 on a bar then having to cut it to make it work? seems to me that someone would have one that would work with out cutting. I know i'm being a pain about this but if that is the case i'd rather cut and mod the stock one and use the money on something else. thanks alot for all help, this is a great site to read the posts and learn alot about these great trucks.

NO ! The adjustable bar sould fit !!! If it does not, contact the vendor. They may have sent the wrong one.

The bar should be installed and then adjusted to center the wheels with the weight on the axles. The bar should run downhill from the left frame rail, never uphill. (level is OK, but downhill is better)

What year is your truck ? It has a bearing on the length.. But contact the vendor first..

I can't speak for anyone else, but I got mine through Early Classic and it fit like a glove...

It,s a 64 model. Thats what i was thinking is they sent the wrong one but i just wanted to make sure i wasn't doing something stupid then everyone started talking about having to cut theirs. just didn't make sense to me. the bar they sent me has got to be the wrong one. thanks

i also got mine from early classics like Dennis, did the company you bought this from also send you a new mount that goes under the trailing arm? i realize the originall bolted next to the diferential, but with a drop kit it should be mounting on a plate that bolts between the axle and trailing arm, at least thats how early classics had DVal and I do it.

I ordered one it was a 27" and i needed a 24" for my 66 so it tried to push the rear end out the right side.Kilroy was here!!!

Actually,,, The one I used bolts to the differential. It was called simply an Adjustable Panhard Bar.
The one that Kustom is referring to is called their Super Panhard Bar and is used for drops GREATER than 4 inches.
If you will be going no lower than a 4 inch spring in the rear a regular adjustable panhard will work fine.

A note: If you use a 5 inch or greater rear spring you will also need to relocate the upper shock mounts. Early Classic sells a kit for that too.

Thats true Dennis, I forgot about that factor, I did a 6" drop in the rear and 4" in the front. The bar that came with my kit didnt fit perfect either due to the axle i choose to use. Early Classics built me a custom length adj. bar and straight swapped me for the one that came with the kit. Man I cant say enough good things about Early Classics workmanship and customer service.
