Parking brake cable install help

Well Guys the manual doesn't help me much on this one. I have new cables for my 49 1/2 ton but I'm not sure how they install. Do the bolts go in from the front or the back? It looks like from some other installations that the bolts go in from the back and the nuts are on the brake shoe side. Would that be correct? also I bought the felt pads but not sure of their installed location either. Do they go between the two cable clamps before it's all bolted to the back plate? I first thought one of the cable clamp halves went inside the backing plate and the other went outside but I see no way to get the one clamp through the backing plate. Of course any help would be appreciated. I have already determined that my BMFH wouldn't help me much

So Far thirty some viewers to my post but no help yet. How about just one item - Are new cables supposed to have two metal end pieces to bolt through at the backing plate or just one?

Nate posted this in another response about brake cables I found while reading search results -

"Working it through the backing plate is an act of patience unless you do it regularly , don't worry , just take your time at it , when you have it all lined up Just So , it'll slip to-gether easily ."

So is it so - I need to feed these through the backing plates so one clamp is one one side and the other on the back side? Man I could sure use a picture or two!!!

Go to The Old Car Manual Project and look up the Chevrolet Master Parts Catalog and dig through that until you find the pix you need...

Summer Colds Suck

Nate Buddy, Get some meds and feel better. Summer colds really suck. I have bad sinus infections about once a year so I feel your pain.

I did check the master parts book and see that what they sent me is the right part at least by the tag that was attached but I didn't find an assembly picture. I'll check again. Get better we need you!!!

It's been a while since I fooled with the park brake cables , you're going to need to find a pic or someone who's done it recently .

I know Chevrolet Obsolete in georgia has really good exploded pix , give them a try .

I put the felt on this side to prevent dirt from entering the hole in the backing plate. I hope this helps.

Sorry for late answer but I had to take care of some honey do's.

Originally the offset brackets were cast pieces. Now the cables that are made use a two piece metal stamping.
The correct way to install them is :1. Put the bolts on the inside.
2. Gasket or felt on the outside.
3. Both metal stampings next.
4. Lock washer and nut next.
5. After you tighten bolts check if
cable is free to move.
Two reasons why the bolt goes on the inside are : 1. less small pieces on the inside of the brake drum 2. Its easier to install.

Larrys picture has it right.
