Hello all,
My 1984 GMC 1/2 ton 4WD originally came with a 305. The engine and tranny were replaced from a 93 Suburban (350 FI and 700R4). The configuration includes a serpentine belt system. When the engine is cold the steering works well, but has a catch as you attempt to turn the wheel. After the engine warms up some it steers great. But, after the engine temp climbs to normal operating range the steering becomes very hard to articulate, especially at low speeds. It is very noticible when turning into a driveway or backing a trailer. I have recently replaced the power steering pump, which did not remedy the problem.
My question is: Is the power steering pump from a 93 model and the steering gearbox from a 84 compatible? Or if anyone has any other possible solution.
