440 H.P. 383 Flat Top Stroker w/ Speed Demon Carb, Polished Air Gap Manifold & Vortec Heads

Having problems fine tuning the Air/Fuel mixture on the carb. So decided to buy a Pyrometer & was woundering if anybody knows the Correct temp. of the EGT (Egaust Gas Temp) of a properly tuned Motor at idle and at under slight load. I do not the slighest CLUE where and what temp. to start at

Any help would be great

Nice motor. How does the EGT help in tuning your carb?
The pyro probe is normally installed into the exhaust pipe as close as possible to the exh. manifold. Temperatures will vary, of course, depending on your right foot:) 300degF to 1200degF is normal operation. Any sustained temp above 1300 degF is considered too high. Here's a link...

Scroll down to the pics you need. Hope it helps.
