Has anyone used a Chevy "car" radio to install in their truck?
I have a 64 push button radio out of an Impala that seems
like it would fit in the hole of my 64 truck okay, but the tunner knob
threaded shaft is shorter than the on / off volumn shaft,
and wouldn't protrude thru the dash.... hence, I wouldn't
be able to get a nut on it. I can't remember if the Impala
dash was recesses so the radio shaft protruded, or
what the case was.
Anyone have a "work-around" this problem?
It's a "weird" thread on the radio shafts.... maybe 7/6" x 27 tpi,
so making a "special" nut wouldn't be easy.
Thanks for any ideas!

I've tried a lot of different things but this is what I tried that seems to work the best...I bought this radio off of E Bay. It's name brand is Pyle. It's a AM / FM radio with a port that you can plug either a chip or an I phone in to. It has shats and I was able to use the stock knobs off the original AM radio The cost on this was 39.00 bucks. I installed it and put a 750 watt Amp under the seat, 1 10" woffer 2 mids and 2 tweets and it sounds like a million bucks to me. I'm in to this thing for under 300.00 and I'm very happy with it. I hope this helps ......Big Tim  002.JPG

Pyle Radio

There seems to be a "lot" of different PYLE radio's
on EBay. Do you know the model number of yours?
Also, did it fit in the original dash hole, or was
your hole altered?
Thanks

It's a Pyle PLR14MPF and yes I had to do very little modification with a Dremel to the dash to make it work.

Or you could get a original radio and have it sent to tayman and have it updated to am, fm ,cd

I researched that possibility too and the cost on that conversion was gonna be around 400.00 with shipping. I probably would have done it if it had been for something other than my budget build I did on my 61...Big Tim

Have looked into coversions as well..... am barely going to have enough money left to buy tires after I'm done with the box, lol.

Am thinking with going something like the PYLE radio, but I don't
want to alter the dash. I may go with an AM radio that fits,
and add the "Redirad" so I could play a compact CD player
or MP3 player thru the AM radio.

The link in my previous post takes you to
the Redirad's webpage, where it tells
all about it?
Anyone have one? If so, how do you like it?

RediRad Update

I installed a stock AM radio, new speaker, and the RediRad.
Just want to report back and say that I think it's going
to work out nice. I hooked up my MP3 player, and
instantly had access to hundreds of songs to play.

Just want to mention that if you're restoring your
truck, and are going to be putting in a new speaker
and / or radio, do it before you install the glove box
liner and door........ had to take my out again
to install the speaker!
