I want to install a rear bumper (painted not chrome)... I've seen pics of trucks with a straight line bumper, that is, it doesn't have the middle step dip in it. Any ideas where I can get one? Can I use a front bumper (or is that a stupid question??!)

Hmm, well the front bumper and the rear bumper have different bolt patterns, but I wonder, if you replaced the old rear brackets with front brackets (maybe some fabricating there too), it might possibly work then!?!? Sorry, hope that helps.

Interesting idea. Thanks Hardy! Anyone out there have the kind of bumper I'm talking about? I've seen pics...

Larry;

As I am sure you know in these years there were all kinds of "Dealer" installed bumper options.I have a 57 3600 and I used a front bumper on the rear of my truck and it worked fine. In fact if you look in the Factory Assembly Manual you will find this option on some of the heavier duty trucks. Here is a link to how mine turned out.

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

I never knew that ever did that.How do you know whether you're coming or going??

Good one Lee! As for me, my wife lets me know which way to go! Seriously tho', I do like the look of the straight line rear bumper without the step in it.

Larry;

Thanks for the compliments, my family nick-named my truck "Rusty" and if you saw the "Before" pictures you know why. It took us about a year from the start of deconstruction, as they say on Overhauling, to the paint phase. That's a little longer than the week they take on TV, but then it was just my friend and I not a crew or 20 or 30 people. I am glad we did it all ourselfs and it is great fun to run around in. I take it on the interstate four or five time a year and Rusty still holds his own at 65 mph.
