Replacement accelerator pedal question

My 66 C10 will be road-ready in a couple weeks. I'm keeping the original gas pedal linkage. After doing the carpet and floor insulation, my new plastic gas pedal won't stay on the floorboard pegs. Changing the height of the pegs didn't work and I broke the darn plastic pedal. I'd like to replace that pedal with something that's cheap, durable, and works well. Maybe one I can bolt to the floor and still use the original rod that comes thru the firewall.

Anyone have an easy fix idea I might try. Lokar stuff is too pricy for me. Junk-yarding or metal fabbing is OK by me.
 
Thanks my friend. Again, you've given me a good direction to proceed. I'll head to the local vintage junk yard in a couple days and get all the components.

Initially, I'll try to retain my current carb linkage (threaded rod) and stock firewall pivot fitting. If that doesn't pan-out, I'll go with the cable.:)

Thanks for the reply. That's a classy setup. I'm reluctant to admit what I did to fix my problem. Oh what the heck: My pedal was new and only one of the sockets that fit on the floor pegs was broken. I used my dremel and cut off the bottom of the pedal with the socket holes. Using a Stanley hinge, 2 bolts to replace the floor pegs, 2 self-tappers and some JB Weld....followed by a little adjustment of the linkage. It works fine and is barely noticeable. Total cost $2.50:D

Nothin' wrong with that. I call my truck the "good enough" truck.. I have a bunch of fixes just like that on it.
