S10 swap?????

Okay, we're barely three months into our first truck project and my boys are already arguing over who gets the truck when it is done!!!! Gotta love it. Soooo....I was thinking.... I have this extra '54 cab that needs a lot of lower sheet metal work and my neighbor two doors down is selling his '93 S10 which could possibly be had for a song. It is running well and in more than fair shape. Can anybody give me some ideas on what's REALLY involved in an S10 swap? I mean, we have the time. The boys are 13, 11, and 9. It's not like it has to be done quick. The first truck is project enough for now, but I was just thinking that having one restored truck and one restorod would be pretty darn cool.

I agree with Ken, coilover has done several. I'm in the middle of a swap as we speak. I'm using a ext cab short bed. It's a little long but I'm going to modify my bed to make it work instead of doing any cutting on the frame. Air ride technologies makes GREAT air suspension for these trucks including a bolt on four link rear called the "air bar". That's what is going on mine, a little pricey but I have ridden in a few cars that they put the suspension on and it is well worth the money. It really does seem like a simple crossover though. I think you'll enjoy doing one. Coilover has posted some nice pics of motor mounts and cab mounts and a few other tricky things. As far as the lower half sheet metal. I just finished welding a complete lower end on my truck. It was really easy for the most part, just time consuming. I'm in the middle of putting the smooth firewall and floor pan in next. If you can get it cheap then by all means do it.
