Sad sight on the road today

[3/4 gmc 1952]

While driving to pick up my son at daycare I came across a very sad site. An inliner 6 with transmission attached lying on the road in a pool of oil at an intersection. It appeared that someone was transporting it in the back of a truck and failed to secure it. Sad to see. Do you guys think that motor would be usable after something like this? Just curious. Have a great day!

Depends how hard it hit!! Either way you would have to open it up to see how worn out or damaged. The price is right

And here I thought unsecured loads only happened here in Colorado. It never ceases to amaze me how poorly people tie things down.

Used Engines

Oh yeah ~ once you bang the dents out of the oil pan and rockerbox , it'll be good as new .

You'd be amazed at how rough the older junkyards used to treat these sturdy engines when removing them ~ typically they'd bend open the crashed hood then wrap the whole engine in chain , hook it to the yard goat and blast off in reverse ~ when the chain yanked taut , the mounts , exhaust system and electrical harness all failed , the already mangled radiator & core support gave way and the entire drive train came flying out @ 25 MPH or so , only to plop in the greasy mud...... .

It was quite a sight to see , believe me .

So , did some fool just drive off and leave his used engine lying in the street ?

Sheesh , some people have NO manners , what if a Motocycle had come along & slipped ? .

There is a yard I know of that is much more sophisticated than the one Nate decribes. They have a special purpose forklift that has one set of rigid forks to hold the vehicle down while the movable forks rip the engine out with a chain. This high tech approach still destroys the exhaust manifolds on every engine I've ever got from them.
