Jack up and put jack stands under rear end.
Take off wheels and brake drums
Take cover off back of differential---10 bolts
Remove set bolt that runs through the spider gear pin---about 3 inches long and has a small hex head usually 5/16 to 7/16 inch
Remove pin and square spacer block
Push in on axle and remove horseshoe shaped "C" clip
    Pull axle out
Remove seal and install new one

Even's instructions are correct for a 1/2 ton (3100/3200) truck. If your's is a 3/4 ton let us know.

3600 uses a H-050 rear axle which was used on 3/4 and Chevy and GMC trucks at least into the late 1950s. I don't know where to find a maintenance manual for an early 50s Chevy truck, so I'm referencing an on-line 1957 GMC Maintenance Manual which has good coverage of the H-072, heavy duty version but mechanically the same as the H-050. I checked this on-line copy of the '57 GMC Maintenance Manual against my paper version of the 1952 GMC Maintenance Manual and they agree everywhere I have referenced below.

    Start reading here: 1955 - 1959 GMC Trucks Maintenance Manual - Models 100 - 500

The good stuff (rear hub and bearing replacement) is here: 1955 - 1959 GMC Trucks Maintenance Manual - Models 100 - 500
When the manual refers to a "type A,B, or C" yours is a type A (all series 150 and 250).

There is a reference to section 2 for axle shaft removal. Look here 1955 - 1959 GMC Trucks Maintenance Manual - Models 100 - 500 for removal of H-072 axle which comes out the same way as your H-050.
