SEAT BRACKETS

I'm working on restoring my 64 Chevy pickup. I've come to find out that the seat is not the original, and it is sitting on a couple of 4x4 wood blocks! I guess my dad made this modification back in the day and did away with the original brackets. Does anyone know where I can buy a set? Any other suggestions would help. Also, what is the easiest (most affordable) way to convert to P/S?

My 64 had the stock seat that bolted directly to the floorboards. If your seat is blocked up it probably isn't the stock seat or the seat frame was cut and modified. I used a Tea's Design seat and made the seat brackets to fit. The seat is expensive and the bracket took some work to make. A stock seat should be easy to get for that year truck and shouldn't cost too much. (I'd give you my old one but I ended up junking it)
Power steering can be done several ways. If you want to do it as cheaply as possible you need to go the junk yard route. Call Rez engineering or Chevy Duty and get the interface bracket. (about $69) Buy a late model, 70's power steering box, pump, brackets and hoses and bolt the unit to the frame. (the kit comes with instructions) You then have to cut the steering shaft and weld a rag joint flange to fit the larger steering box.
If you've got some more money you can buy the kit and steering box from the above, buy the hoses from Lee Engineering (any length you need) the pump from GM, the pump mounting bracket from Alan Grove, and a Gates V belt and you have power steering. The advantage of the interface kit, for eather route, is it preserves the steering geometry of your otherwise good front end. Check the pictures. Good luck.
