Squeaky Water pump

My 47' with a 216 circa 1942 has a squeaky Water pump now. My buddy says there may be a way just to lube it. Does anyone know about this?

Also if I must replace the pump is the one from a 1942 216 the same as a 1947? I would imagine the bolt holes would line up....but maybe not the belts

The old 216 waterpump might have the thread for the grease yerk. I had one like that aswell. If not its easy to tap one to fit a stock yerk. It might be that your belt is to tight aswell and that it makes the bearing sounding squeaky. If the bearing has wear you could replace it with a new one wich is an easy job to do really , press some good oil in it before install not grease. I remember seeing that the older pump housing has a bit different look then the newer ones but i am shore they will fit both.Wish you all the best Martinius.

Note: There is a fifty cent core charge if you don't have an exchange!

The same pump was used on the 216 motors from 1937-1953.

If it is squeeling....There are ways to get penetrating oil into the bearing to quiet it down but... it will only be a temporary fix.

If it is making noise... it is letting you know you need to start searching for a new pump.

I won't even explain how to lube it because when it goes (not if) , it'll ruin the radiator .

If you're an originality nut , your local NAPA Store can have yours rebuilt .
