Press 2 for German. Yes, I'd say you got the essense of my message. Only, as you can see I still need much more practice. His 46-47.1 driveshaft is 2-3 inches too long as they still used the old un-synchronized tranny. To use patricks kit it must be a 48 or newer torque tube. I never heard of Babblefish before, I still get emails from Euro friends and it takes me awhile to decipher things. That site will help. So now I will AUSFAHRT this site. You are a good secret decoder we could have used you in Berlin.

I use Babblefish at work a lot when I get letters in different Euro languages.
I have yet to translate any asian with it. :confused:
We all speak one or more of the old world Kings/Emperiors words, no matter which one. :rolleyes:
Even with the babblefish posting the two would be nice.

I think if you tried shortening the old Torque tube, you would be in for a lot of frustration, I don't think I would try it. It would be cheaper to just buy a bolt on Saginaw 4 speed and an open shaft rearend. Have a shop fabricate an open drive shaft for you. You might call patrick and speak to him about shortening. I found a 48 or newer torque tube here without problems. But, in Leipzig, I think the Russians took all the Chevy's with them back to the USSR!
 
Hey Flashlight, you are soo right. The russian people came to Germany after WWII took all engines, cars and trucks and gone with it at home :D Germany has paid for the WWII after the WWII.
Is it right that you have an open shaft for me or only a shop for this?
I remember i read at the internet from a conversion from close to open drive shaft but i don't know wich website. I remember i need an drive shaft plus U-Joints at front and rear and a lot of screws - finish is the conversion kit. OK i will take a look. If this possible then i think it's the cheapest way. Now an important question : Have you an Saginaw 4-speed ??? I'm in Germany and all russians are gone with all Saginaw trannies. Just a yoke, i need help to find, buy and ship a Saginaw to Germany. Could you help me?


next question: could you remember about the intake/header for dual carb in your PM. Could you give me the actually price for the stainless header and the warming part from Patricks. I will use the fenton intake and your stainless header. or have you another/better idea?

Gearbox/Torque tube buying.

Hey Volker

The gearbox weight is aprox. 20 -25 kg. Sending it to Germany directly by airfreight will cost you even more then what your going to pay for it . Including the conversian kit it becomes very expensive. But when traveling your self from the United states to Germany gives good chanses to take the package for free with you at the same time. When taking it a part at least in smaller packages. My cousin did it that way for me without any tax or charges. Another way to do it is that you could ask an classic cardealer in Germany that ships parts in containers from USA to help you out. But chanses to get an T5 gearbox and another newer torque tube will also be wurth trying first of all in your own country through Ebay or american carparts junkyards. At last ask Patrick Sr. for some advice.

I think the Brits have some used parts, maybe they will chime in as well. There was another German fellow who had I think 55-57 Chevy truck hot-rodded he may still have the original parts for you. Creative people like Russ (Ol' Chebby) have used all kinds of rear ends. I think people have used Jaguar, Fords, Chrysler etc. It should not be hard for a German Machine shop to make the driveshaft for you. I was thinking that if you shortened the torque tube and shaft somewhere behind the forward seals and bushings you might be able to do it. As you always remind us...German handwerk is the best!!!
