Tapered Lock Pins

Any suggestions for installing the tapered lock pins on the front hanger of the rear leaf springs on my '56 pickup. Already buggered two of the pins trying to install. It looks like the slot is lined up. I can rotate the spring eye bolt in the bushing. I'm thinking of taking the new pins to the machine shop and having a 32nd milled off the pin and proportionally keeping the taper.

I think the devil engineered this device.
 
Can you send a picture? As you know because of the taper they only go in one way. Are you putting the pin in on the correct side.When i did mine i had no issue. The other question is did they give you the right pins?

The pin was the correct one. It was an exact match for what came out. Used the calipers to measure. I'm wondering if when I had the frame powder coated if I lost a bit of the opening. The spring eye bolt went in with just a little persuasion, but the locking pins are way too snug. One pin goes in from the front of the hanger the other pin goes in the opposite way.
 
Powder coat in the hole can definetly be an issue.Something you may want to try is put the tapered pin the freezer for about 20 minutes to contact the metal.Between cleanig out the powder coat and the deep freeze this may help.
Not a fan of removing metal when the parts involved are an identicle match. Give the freezer a try and let me know.

Will give a try

I had to order two new locking pins. When they arrive, I'll pop them in the freezer to see if it helps. Will let you know. Thanks for the suggestion.

Really Think Your Problem Is The Extra Layer Of Powder Coating In The
Openings,You Might Have To Ream It Out to Get the Pin's In!
Usually I have Had to Tap out Threads When I Have had Something Powder
Coated as its To Tight for any Bolt to Go In!
Not Trying to Steel Bobby's Thunder But For What It's Worth If you Freeze
The Pins They Might Go In, BUT, You Might Have To Beat The Crap Out Of Them
If You Were Ever To Take Them Back Out Again! Again Just a Suggestion!

Had to beat the crap out of the old ones anyways.If the powder coat is the issue great. If not im not one to remove metal needlessly.Everyone does things differently.This works for me and i've used this method in the past with no problem. I'm not on this forum for my ego,just to help those who ask for it.

I ordered the new parts yesterday. The previous pins got beat up pretty good. I'm hoping the holes have been reamed out enough. I was able to get the pins all the way through, the threads were so bad that I couldn't get the nut/lockwasher to grab. Any guidance for how to make sure the spring eye bolts are lined up? I'm enjoying the conversations.

Just make sure the hole is clear of any obstruction and you should be fine.A little wd-40 in the hole couldn't hurt.Let me know how it goes.

What i've done in the past too is take a C-clamp and an old socket and use it as a press. It may help with the pin going in evenly where as using a hammer it may get cockeyed in the hole.

I like it. The press feels better than the hammer. How do you get enough pressure on the clamp to drive it home?

I Agree With You Bobby,If You Were To Ever Take Them Out,Ya, It probably Be
For Replacing Them Anyway! What I was Referring To Is Anytime I have a part
Powder Coated in The areas that get Bolted Up or a pin Slides Thru at a attachment Point I Usually have To Ream Or Tap out that Point and That There Is Coating On it and it Looks Like Just Thinner Than an Egg Shell and just a Few Thousandth's To not Let The part Go In.
