Temp light not working

The temperature idiot light on my truck is not working (does not light up green or red).

I am not really sure how it works, so I don't know where to start looking for the problem.

Is there a wire that connects to the thermostat or something??

There is a sender for the temp light on the motor. On V8's it's located on the left front of the intake manifold. ( not sure about the inline six)
There should be a wire coming off that sender going to the gauge.
Check the bulb FIRST..
