Ok after cking out your step by step instructions I have a question. How did you get the rubber to stay as I moved along to insert it on truck? The rubber keeps coming off as I move along. Do I not have it warm enough? this is driving me crazy. And getting the rubber on there is not an easy task you make it sound so simple. it is a pain in the you know what.

    Door Pulls

Okay just wanted to share the Door Pulls I made for the ole 52. I haven't been able to get out to the garage and work on it (no heat) and so been trying to get as much done as I can for inside. Got pattern made for kick panels and door panels now just got to cover em. I cut out and hand punched and tooled and stitched em up all by hand hope you all like em. They are gonna look great on the doors. Oh yeah GMC in the middle and of course JR & KA on the left close to hole.

I like the door pulls, Karen! Very cool idea. I'm toying with the idea of making my own door panels, when it gets to that point. My dad was an excellent leathercraftsman, and when he passed away (almost 21 years ago) I kept all of his tools in the event I may wanna pick up the hobby some day. Now that I have my own shop, I'm planning on setting up a work bench with his tools so I can play around with them to see if I have a knack for it.

Quick question: Do you have a stitching machine, or do you do all of that by hand? My dad had a stitching horse and did all of his stuff by hand. My dad's buddy (who has offered me leather work lessons) has a few different stitching machines. If you have a machine, which one is it and what do you like/not like about it?

    Great job!

No stitching machine just a stitching horse like you said and yeah punched all the holes by hand and stitched it up. I have done leather craft for a long time and thought about doing seats and all then I had a second thought. NOT. Just to much work. anyway good luck and let me know how yours turns out.

Tandy Leather... that's where my dad always did his business! When I was visiting family in central Illinois this past fall, I stopped into the local Tandy Leather shop where my dad was on a first-name basis with the manager there. Dad did most of his business by mail order through Tandy's catalog, but when he'd visit his brother, we always made a stop at the Tandy Shop. Well, I picked up a catalog my last trip in the event I wanna try to pick up the craft. :D

Nice door pulls, Karen. I also have leathercraft tools, and know how to use them. Took Industrial Arts in JR High, and leathercraft was one semester. Bought tools that summer and have had them since. Only occasionally use them though. Tandy Leather is the only co. I'm aware of for leather products, and crafts. Good work.

I've made several sets of these for some of my other ole truck friends and they turned out ok. When I saw the cost for new door pulls I thought why not make some for my ole truck. Fun part is you can put anything you want on em.. Take care fellow truck pals and TTUL

    Help

OK guys another question I've been working on the wiring for sometime now and to tell ya the truth I HATE it. It is so confusing to me. On my ign I don't know how to wire it it has three places for wires to attach and on two of the legs there are two wires each for for a total of 5 wires going to it. I only know this because I cut the wires and left the ends attached to the ign 8 yrs ago. Can anyone help me figure out ??

I finally got the wipers , and def vents in , the glove box and heater in and lots of little things done and keep putting off the wiring. Also anyone know where I could find a decent used bed ?? that don't cost an arm and a leg??

Hi Karen. OK, decide what wires need to go to and from the ignition switch. Of course, you'll need a battery hot, from the fuse panel, should be "Ignition switch Power", "ignition switch Accessory", and "Coil". My switch just has 2 positions, off, and on. Power goes to one side, and everything else goes to the other. If you have 3 positions, off in the center, and accessory to left, and 'on' to the right, then you put the power to the center, and with a meter, determine which terminal becomes live with switch in 'On' position only, and that's where the 'coil' wire goes. Accessory goes to the other terminal, (that one should be live in 'On', or 'Accessory' position. Hope this helps a little. Let me know if you need more. In the ez wire fuse panel, the accessory wire from the switch goes back and energizes all the 'accessories', like radio, wipers, Heater/Air Cond., and stuff like that. 'On' position does all that, and adds ignition power.
To ease the crowding in the main firewall grommet, I separated some of the engine wiring and passed it through the formerly used temperature/oil pressure opening. I put wiring for the new electric temperature, oil pressure, coil wire, and Battery Hot, and tachometer through that grommet, as those wires all ran to the engine easier that way.

You know Bilbo, I sure wish some of you guys lived closer to me cause we'd have to have a gathering of the minds. I tell you this is getting the better of me. My Dad is not able to help me any more and that makes me want to get her done even faster so he can enjoy it with me, But when a person has to do it by themselves and really don't know what they're doing, well then its a very slow process. Not feeling sorry for myself mind you just sayin... Thanks for the info and I'll work on her some more with this in mind.
