Tires
The trick is to get a narrow tread with tall sidewalls .
15"wheels were not an option in '49 (?) I don't think .
So , look for a 215 or so , maybe 235 tread width and then try to find a tall aspect ratio (the /XX number) , you're looking for a /80 or higher number here , /95 would be perfect but I don't think anyone actually makes one that tall .
Be sure to get LT tires , not passenger car tires ! your life depends on them .
Radials of course , not crappy bias - ply rubber .
