Universal Ball Joint Seal

I decided to make fixing leaks my project this winter. My universal ball joint leeks like an 80 year old woman with incontinence. Upon taking the propellor shaft off, I noticed that who ever had my truck before me only had one shim where the ball merries the trans, and they had cut the shim to put it on instead of removing the shaft like they should have. I also did not see a cork seal at all. This is the first time that I have taken the assembly apart, and I don't know how the cork seal is suppose to be placed, anyone know.

Once In A While

You get lucky and find a leather ring instead of the cork one , if so , treat it gently , soak in a cup of gear oil and use it ~ they're much better than the aftermarket cork seals .

Shim the ball sans U-Joint until it just barely stays up , is easy to pull down , that's the sweet spot for these .

Thanks for the prompt Guys... I went out and disassembled my driveline and re-shimmed the ball joint, per instructions, as when originally reinstalled, I was pressed for time and needed to close up to prevent sand and grit from being blown in by an impending storm. Now that "Clarabelle" is home, the job was quick and easy in my shop.
