I don't know, Flipper~ I'm a fan of your truck. I have thought hard and heavy about a flat bed for mine. You know, the thought of me forgetting where my hammer is, or the thought of setting up a neat "little" platform to rock and roll from... well, a flatbed makes MUCH sense.
Anyway, look at your driver side photo verses the passenger side. I think the boardless side steps the whole thing in the right direction, making it look "right". The side with the board makes the leap from the end of the board to the level of the bed visually tougher to do.
These are of course the thoughts of someone up too late with too much grape juice, but- like I said, I'm a fan. You have the photos, what do you think?

In fact~ upon further review, you have seen the sign for a heartbeat~ (the straight line that shoots down then back up higher than the line was, then down not as far then back up to level again? That would be a great way to paint your truck IF you ever wanted to. Kinda like "teacher's" purple and silver, but playing more on the diagonal theme.

just my (even later at night) thoughts...

By the way, the purple part would include your bed metal. The purple would be no lower at the back of the cab then the bottom of the bed edge.
    you know what I mean?

cool, COOL ride! I love what you did to address the frame to bottom of bed detail- I labored over that one. You made it quite simple.

    tits!

I have been struggling with the whole running boards/no running boards thing.

I was thinking that it had grown on me since I had been looking at it for two years without running boards.

How many people think I should go without running boards?

Hey Flipper~ You're one of those picture posting experts, could you sick in a shot from the backside that shows your truck without the running board? You have a good shot from behind with the board on, and a good shot from the front with the board off, but if you could post one from the back~ boardless~ that may help people decide.

    My vote is "boardless".

    Oh MAN!

(by the way GMC girl, flipper's ride used an S-10 frame, also... right Flipper?)

Yes, this picture lacks the wood you've put in to fill the void between the frame and underside of the bed!

    BOARDLESS!

My vote is definitely no running boards.

Where will your exhausts exit? Will they be visible under the cab. That might be a good thing.

Doing an s10 swap on mine too. Mine will not sit this low though. I would be scooping snow in the winter if my bumper came that close to the ground. I will also have to mod the running boards and the bed on mine. BTW- I like the wheels. Mine are not original either... Just perfect for a street rod.

The exhaust will hang down. Since the running boards were gonna kill the ground clearance anyway, I got the pipes down low ...away from the floors.

The pipes are huge. Dual 3.5" going to Flowmaster sprint car mufflers (empty box). The "chrome tip" in the picture is a 5" stack from a dump truck. I was gonna cut it in half and make two tips angling out after the running boards.

I like the idea of showing off the mufflers and chrome pipes. They are a lot more interesting than the running boards in this application.
That's my two cents. I really like what you are doing with your truck.

Jess~ Whats wrong with makin' a little extra spending money doublin' as a snow plow? You'd have the power to do it!

Everyone~ Raise your hand if you've had a problem getting this site to come up??? I couldn't get anything more than a blank page yesterday and today.
Don't do that again, CP! Cryin' out loud! Don't TAKE my home-away-from-home away from me again, K?! I needs this site!

    Zig,
I couldn't get past a white page yesterday either. I thought it was just me.
BTW, Tombstone was on the tube the other night. Good flick.

We just have to be careful and never tell Flipper to keep the shiny side up. In his case he would be calling a wrecker!:D

What else do you have planned before you consider it "finished"?

I was so depressed that I called up CP to find out why, why, why.:D

See, make a bunch of friends and you just can't do without them.

I was in the middle of a cool post!

I hit "submit reply" and waited, and waited, and waited...Decided to reboot and "Oh crap, the evil cell phone dudes DID hit us with a virus!" Now I know how a junkie feels when he doesn't get his fix!

    Mount the cooling fan.
mount the carb (the manifold is currently duck taped sealed under the carb)
    plugs and plugwires
finish the dash ....fill radio knob holes, rust holes and such....bondo and primer
    hook up gauges
wire the whole darn truck with new streetrod style harness
finish exhaust (muffler hangers and tail pipes)
shorten spring perches by 1.5" (have lowering blocks built into perches....truck is lower than I planned....rear will be too low with full tank of gas)
correct drive shaft (end welded crooked :( )
    install seat belts and seat
    make shifter boot
    make arm rests
install radio????? (will probably be a waste of time with exhaust)

Its gonna be a busy two weekends!

    Pictures from this weekend

Exhaust pipes and front bumper are installed

Electric fan is mounted and fan shroud fabbed up
    [IMG]

And the @#$%^!*&^!!!! electric wiper conversion is complete. It took forever to get the wipers to smoothly wipe the entire glass and be timed evenly.

    The flatbed works
