Too Rad for me! One word comes to mind here. Radical. I love what you're doing, but it's too Rad for me!
That's TOTALLY awesome, Flipper! See? Boardless works!!! IF you ever wanted to paint that ride, I bet you could put metal over the underside wood and backside, huh? Not that you would, but just an idea... Toooo cool!
Didn't get it finished this weekend. But here are some pics that we took to send to the insurance guy.
Flipper, If you can get your hands on a digital video camera it would be great to post a video to youtube so we could hear and see this baby run. It is looking really good. I'll bet the insurance guy comes back and says, "I can't insure it till it's finished." That is, unless he understands this kind of build. Keep up the good work! Gater
I went to the nats as a spectator. Wanted to get it going for Frog Follies at the end of August......but is supposed to be 102* today and 103* tomorrow. That is too darn hot to be working on a toy......not my idea of fun. I should have pushed harder last fall/winter/spring
I know what you mean flipper. I just got in from working on mine. I pulled the front end apart and painted the rest of the frame. I'm getting it ready to install my front air bags. I set the rear on the ground for the first time today since I put my air bags in the back. It so do low. I love it. The back of the frame is about 3-4 inches off the ground. I definately think she'll set low. I'm done for the day though, just to darn hot, plus I'm going to the Titans game to watch them beat the redskins. Yeah Football is back.
I finally cranked it (hotwired though). It sounds MEAN with the big tube headers and the big pipes and the big hollow box mufflers!!!!!! It sound like a pro stocker when it idles. I'm probably gonna put turndowns on it and see if that helps a little. I need to make a gas pedal so I can drive it!!!
Put the big chrome tips back on and build yourself a set of flamethrowers. With side exhaust, they really help when traffic doesn't want to let you merge...
I finally thought to take some pictures of the painted dash ....and the second "dash" (ignition, headlight switch, wiper switch and dimmer are in the seat base) Oh yeah, wiring is a pain in the butt!!!! I used an EZ harness. It would have been easier if I mounted the panel on the firewall....like they suggested, instead of under the seat. I had to "adjust" darn near every wire to make it work that way.
Nice! The dash is really clean! I like the simplicity. Do you plan to keep the original steering wheel?
Sonofagun ! You are really talented ! . For that true 50's Kustom look , may I suggest a sparkle paint on the steering wheel ? .
What color flake would you use to paint the steering wheel? (I am pretty sure the interior will be all black)
Therin Lies The Rub As you're keeping it a Rat Rod look , right ? I's prolly match it to the primary interior color but remembering all those old Chrysler wheels that wound up on Rat Rods before they were called that , red or blue...... You could either leave some cracks in it or distress it after it was finished . I just like the 50's 60's look on the rare occasion I don't go stock . You could just paint it ivory , I did this to mine and I love it , it never gets hot in the desert sun and it plain old look cool , gets a lot of posative comments .
OK, let's rat rod it! I'm with you on the metal flake steering wheel. I'm thinking blue and silver flake. Next, let's put some pinstriping on the dash to match. Blue, silver and maybe some white. Now were talking! Gotta have a surf board rear view mirror and maybe a Rat Fink gear shift knob! Maybe blue and white fuzzy dice hanging off of the mirror! Oh yeah, I can see it now! Cruisin' down to Mud Island for the BBQ competition in your truck with a custom smoker in tow! That's living LARGE!!
I may play with some funky paint on the steering wheel, but I think I'll pass on the surf board rear view mirror, Rat Fink gear shift knob and blue and white fuzzy dice hanging off of the mirror.
Time for more build updates. This was my solution for the brake switch. I mounted a mid 80's GM switch in the top, rear surface of the S-10 brake bracket and then addwd an arm to the back of the brake pedal. The you hit the brakes, the lever moves up...and off of the switch. (I should have taken pics while the whole assembly was out.
Here are pics of my turn signals. With the lense removed. The arrow is made from 2 LED clearance lights from Wally-world. These were the left overs from the clearance lights (some cutting required) I made a bracket from a piece of jaguar XJS chrome (I recycle) I re-used the OLD turn signal switch that was in the truck when I bought it (spray-bombed of course). The wires are pulled through a piece of un-shrunk heat-shrink tubing. Looks nice and it was damn near free.
