You're welcome! And BTW, if you don't like the knob, exchange it for an original looking one!:D

    Knob

I did, that the one I'm talking about,,,, it feels like plastic, not like the original cast/chrome.

I guess that's because it's plastic :D . Ya reckon those foreign people could put a little more pride in the things they make for us old American Pride truckers?

It has been a while so I don't remember the details but I somehow made the original knob fit on the new one. It would be worth a try.

I put a dual fuel / vacuum pump on my 235 a while ago. I just bought the one from CP and it fitted right on there. The old fuel lines matched up exactly.

The new vacuum lines you need to make go: one to the existing vaccum on the carb and the other to the wiper or what ever needs the vacuum. It was easy enough to figure which is which since the pump had in (suck) and out (blow) arrows on it.

The most difficult part for me was finding those little connector things to hook the lines up to the pump.

The photo was taken as part of the current engine out work when I'd closed off the suck side.

    Call me slooooooow

Kevin, you can call me slow if you want too, because I guess I am.

It just occured to me today what you said. You said you were not putting wipers on your truck at all. Can you do that and still get it inspected so you can drive it around? I know here that if it had wipers on it original, they got to be on it and working to get it state inspected.

I was driving around looking for old trucks today, thinking about, you guessed it, old trucks and like a bolt of lightening it hit me.... NO WIPERS? huh, got to ask about that one

Yep, I'm kinda slow, only took me a week to catch on:eek:

    Boop's Dad,
Inspection? We don't need no stinking inspections. We are the Tennesseeans!

Tennessee does not have inspections. There are junkers everywhere on our roads. The only time you would get in trouble would be when a offeicer pulled you over for speeding or something and decided to pile on anything else he could find. Liek the time I was pulled over for speeding and the officer wanted to know where my front bumper was. He told me to put it on or the next time he saw me ho would have to give me a ticket.

The only thing that I know you have to get inspected here is something like dune buggies if you're gonna license them. I had a buddy that had to get his inspected and the only thing he had to have was headlights, turn signals, brake lights, running lights, and a windshield. NO WIPERS. But even if I do have to get it inspected then I can just register as a show vehicle and then they are VERY forgiving on what you do with them. Or atleast they are in KY. I'll check more into it before I go welding up those two little holes.

    here's a thought!

Weld up the holes, do a little sheet metal work to the cowl and install wipers that are concealed. That would be too cool. (See I do have some street rodder in me!)

I'm just gonna weld them up most likely and try not to get caught in the rain. I know you guys say it won't hurt them, but I don't want it to melt!:D

Maybe even better - you don't get an intermittent, but with the constant vacuum you can just turn the knob a little to vary the speed. And the mechanism makes a better noise.

The inspections bit of this thread is interesting. Living in England we get an annual inspection (the MOT) that checks just about everything http://www.motester.co.uk/cog.html. I got my truck from California, it sort of went, but with no horn, wipers or a few other significant things like brakes that would eventually stop it. So I was wondering how it ever made it legally onto the highway.

About 10 or 15 years ago (brains fuzzy) we did a 46 panel truck with a V8, a/t, a/c, yada, yada and all they had for above the windshield electric wipers at that time were single speed units that growled like a lion on speed. As the others in the shop were thinking "the old farts tying up the machines again" I got a vacuum pump from one of the early GM engines that fit where the distributer went when they were gas engines. I made a pulley to replace the cam gear, a bracket to mount it to the intake bolts, and used one of those triple fan pulleys with the tiny third groove where a belt used to go to a smog pump. With that on the engine with it's own vacuum generation and hooked to motors rebuilt by Ficken the wipers were the best ever; infinitely variable and uninfluenced by pull on the engine. Only took 3 or 4 days. I don't charge my customers for these "fun things" and it teaches the guys religion because I hear them saying "oh lord spare me from this".
