Windshield rubber

With the omments about windshield rubber problems, that has become a focus of mine at shows. Here are two photos of two different companies windshield rubber.
The GMC has rubber from LMC, the Chevy has Classic Parts rubber. Both looked pretty darn good to me.
(I couldn't get a picture of the Chevy driver side corner due to people in the way. It looked just as good as the passenger side, however.)

The problem comes in with the stainless strip usually.

Weather strip caulking ???

In the shop manual it says to run a bead of weatherstrip adhesive around the window where the rubber lays down and then some on the outside between the glass and the rubber. Do you guys do that? Sounds like a mess to clean up. Zig run this hot weather away makes it hard to work in the shop in the afternoon.

All weather fast hardening silicon/rubber

I did that on mine and the result is a fearly good ! Aswell on the inside and outside. Let the rubber/silicon dry and cut away the rest with a very thin bladed scalpel nife works fine. But if there are ones that fit perfect for sale i would change it out again.

I wish I could~ The only thing that has helped was a NICE breeze and l-o-w humidity. 102 today, 102 tomorrow. Oh boy.

Windshield install

Just had an incredible windshield install. I put the glass in the rubber about 3 weeks ago and then the son-in-law couldn't get here that weekend. It set in the 100+ heat until today and it went in with no problem. Corners went in no issues. Wish the bead lock on the back glass had gone that good. Thanks for all the posts. Being able to access the pool of experience on this board is a lifesaver for us rookies!

Hi Mike, I have the same problem on my 53.
I thought it was the rubber but I tried with a Steele Rubber and the problem is still the same. I think I will grind glass....

I think my easy install came from the heat and having the glass in the rubber gasket. I taped the bottom edge up to the glass and when I went to install I took the tape off but the rubber was "trained" and stayed in place. No issues with the corners. We did a little straightening with a paint can opener. After the back glass I was dreading the windshield.
I'd rather be lucky as good!

I went with our host's rubber. I looked at the Steele but I am close to having this truck on the road, after nine years, and getting close on funds due to the electric bills:. Ken I wish I had used Trojan on the back glass. Might have gone in better.

Good to know, Papy! I gotta say, the back glass was worse than the side view glass. My arm was killing me when I was finished~ but it's DONE! I'm looking forward to getting the rest of the glass squared away.

Question~ Would it be better to install the front glass before or after I put the hood/fenders on? I'm just wondering because I really want to focus on getting it rolling now that the dash work is all but done.
