Wrecked Truck With Photos. Doesn't Look Bad To Me

The insurance wants to totall the truck. I am going to buy it back and rebuild, the body is ok but not the frame. What newer frame will bolt up to the cab and bed or should I seek out for the same year frame? I think I will rebuild the 65, doesn't look bad to me just work and love.

where are you located? i have a 66 longbed frame im getting rid of. its straight. nothing wrong with it. bought the truck for the body and dont need it.

Your best option would be a replacement frame from a 64-66. EVERYTHING will bolt on, no problem.

I would see about getting your frame straightened too. Have a GOOD chassie guy look at yours to see if it can be repaired. These frames are not all that stiff, ( by design), and lend themselves well to being straightened so long as it's not TOO bad.
Even if you do decide to replace it with a doner, have that one looked at before you start bolting body panels on. This is easily done on a bare frame using string and a buddy and measuring "Diagonally" from several points.

I am just being the devils advocate. what makes you think the frame is bent? This wreck does not appear to be bad enough to bend your frame. at least from what i am seeing.

Its the way insurance company are any automobile over say maybe 10 years old like a 1999 s-10 they would just say totaled

i completely understand that. But he is looking for a chassis. Wondering if that one is really bent before someone takes him to the bank.

Not to seal your post but I had one totaled out 2 years ago but not a 66 it was a 2006 Chevy,wasnt that bad but back rearend was twisted and it only had 7000 miles on truck but we didnt want it back .

Id check the frame on that truck first our 60-66 model trucks are as tuff as nails they knew how to make the autos back in that day

i was only asking $200 for the 66 longbed rollin chassis i have. tow it away on a car dolly. i dont think thats taking him to the bank, but liek you said, i doubt his frame is bent.

Re Build

Buy it back, take it down to the frame, THEN decide whether or not you need to buy another frame. Insurance companies are only looking to settle. '60s Chevy Iron, doesn't bend easily. Remember nowadays, cars are rated by whether or not they can handle a 10 mph accident.

Actually ? Yes it does, especially the frame, it's meant to by design. Those ladder frames were designed to flex under load and being abused. There is a fine line between flexing and bending though. But also, that same flexibility lend itself to being bent back by a compentent techician on a frame rack.

I bent the rear frame horn by backing into a wall at a very low speed while backing into a parking space. The paint on the bumper and the bumper itself were perfect afterward. The frame took the blow and bent one frame rail upward. 10 minutes on a frame rack and it was as good as new again.

The 60's GMC frames are another story and are extreemly ridgid. Those frames are reenforced everywhere and do not bend all that easy.

that left frame still seems to be sticking out there pretty good. It looks like the sheet metal got pushed back is all. just have a frame shop look at it. if it needs teeking, it shouldn't be major. lot less $'s and work for you than changing it all over

as kids we use to straighten our frames out with a chain, a tree, and some horsepower or a comalong, i wouldnt suggest doing that thou. theres much better ways then the dukes of hazzard fix!!
